The Voices Foundation

The Voices Foundation is a unique national music education charity established 18 years ago by Suzi Digby. Its aural/vocal approach to primary music education continues to prove popular with schools across England. Our methodology, most usually delivered in year-long, in-school programmes by our highly trained team of Advisory Teachers, gives non-specialist teachers the skills - and crucially the confidence - to teach music through singing in a structured, progressive way. This holistic, inclusive approach not only nurtures children's musicianship skills during their formative years at school; it also has a significant impact on development of their social skills, concentration, literacy and numeracy.

We are delighted to be working in partnership with David Ross Foundation, through association with one of its academies - Malcolm Arnold Academy in Northampton. We were approached to support their music specialism last year and as a result have been working in 5 of their feeder primary schools delivering a transition project aimed at years 6. The long term plan is for us to continue to work in all these feeder primaries helping their teachers to embed singing within the curriculum. In September we aim to follow through our work in primaries by supporting the Academy's music department, and to help them create a new approach to music education which will help to establish it as a leading music institution.

The association with Malcolm Arnold has also enabled us to form strong links with the local Music Service and with their help, we aim to train more teachers in Northamptonshire and thereby reach all the Academy's feeder primaries.
