Opera at Nevill Holt
Nevill Holt Opera Festival
In 2013 David opens his home and gardens to host the Nevill Holt Opera Festival, a new cultural offering for the local area. Following the success of an annual visit from the Grange Park Opera rising stars, 2013 will see a new festival, hosted by David personally and run by an in-house team, bringing world class opera to Nevill Holt.
Nevill Holt Opera’s commitment is to the local area, to young talent and to creative integrity. Firmly rooted by David’s extensive work with academies in the midlands and the creative arts nationwide, every part of the festival is designed to celebrate and invest in young British talent. On-going collaborations with the Jette Parker Young Artist Programme at the Royal Opera House and an orchestra formed from the recent graduates of the major music colleges in the UK offer a chance to hear and support the best of British, showcasing and nurturing the next generation of operatic talent.
The grounds at Nevill Holt are the ideal setting for a night of Opera; guests can enjoy the three recently renovated walled gardens at Nevill Holt that host an open air exhibition of contemporary British sculpture featuring artists such as Marc Quinn and Allen Jones.
A major part of the new festival will be its education programme which is designed to enhance the cultural experience of the David Ross Foundation supported academies. Masterclasses in all elements of opera production will be the primary focus with expert members of the Nevill Holt team leading workshops on everything from vocals and instrumentals to set design and costume textiles. Academy students will be invited to see the results of the team’s hard work at the summer dress rehearsal giving them an opportunity to see a professional opera performed as well as to enjoy the extraordinary British art and sculpture at Nevill Holt.
